So...my graves disease journey started in 2009-ish (could have been late 2008...don't quite remember). I had just had a baby in June 2008 and had added a whole load of weight but a few weeks later, I had lost 20 lbs just like that! I got this weight under control!!! SMH!
I then started school in sep 2008 and suddenly I was always tired, sometimes I would shake uncontrollably, other times I would be hyperventilating...but these episodes would end rather abruptly and leave me feeling pretty exhausted.
Long story short, I had lab work and iodine uptake test and was diagnosed with Graves (what an awful name). The medication...I really don't remember what it was, made me feel alright (not great)...so I stopped those abruptly just cause. Of course that was a dumb move!
2 years ago, I got the flu twice in a row cause my immunity was sooo bad! I was sick for so long so I started taking Apple Cider Vinegar to help with flu/colds, I avoided being in public areas as much as possible (can't catch that cold) and if someone sneezed near me, I would hold my breathe and walk away...like it makes a difference...but these human minds can make you do crazy things. However, the strange thing was I was now feeling a little ok so I was not sure what was working...was it the multitude of vitamins I was taking or the apple cider? Or was it a combination of everything? Meanwhile, per lab work, my thiroxin levels had dropped a tad. I think faith in hoping for God's healing played a role too.
Fast forward...so this year, I started feeling really really bad again and did more research on something my husband had found a few years ago...aloe vera ( we got the juice...tested it, tasted bad, dumped it). But now I really needed it and google was saying all these nice things about the gel (not the juice like I had before).
So I got the gel and was taking it daily (just 3 tablespoons...btw...it tastes bad too so in the beginning I put a tad of organic honey to improve that horrid tast) and in a couple of weeks, I had more energy and was feeling pretty good!
Fast forward again...on tuesday, I had appt with my endocrinologist...she checked my eyes, squeeze el neck a little (did some reflux test...don't remember getting those previously) and per the ultrasound, my thyroid was normal!! But we still had to do the labwork...so I crossed my fingers and prayed for the best. On Wed, she called and told me (THIS IS THE BEST PART...I PROMISE)...that my Graves was in remission and that these things do happen yada yada! All I heard was 'remission'! I am thrilled and I have found a new love /aloe vera gel' (I still take the ACV...that stuff is good for allergies and colds...keeps them away)!
THE END...and the beginning of living Graves Disease free!! Heres the person who made me really believe I could do this...whoever this is, I thank them for their extensive research and I thank GOD for leading me there! God really does things in mysterious ways!
Disclaimer: Don't do dumb things like stopping your medication like I did. You won't feel good, your neck will be giantish, your eyes will pop to oblivion...its just not a wise decision. (Oh....there was something about removing my thyroid I forgot to add.)
